So the other day I was reading through a food website and I came across a recipe contest. Normally I wouldn't think twice about this. I mean there are just sooo many recipes out there that I couldn't imagine thinking of a new one. However, this one actually seemed within my reach.
So I am looking for any experiences that you may have had with a recipe contest.
- Have you ever entered a recipe contest?
- Did you win?
- What was the experience like?
- Would you do it again?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us! And we are definitely looking forward to your answers.

1. Yes, I've entered two recipe contests.
2. No, I did not win either - I came in 2nd in one and 3rd in the other.
3. Quite frankly, I was annoyed with the outcome of one of them (the one in which I came in 2nd) because the photos of the winning entry were completely unappetizing and the recipe was barely a recipe. I dealt with coming in 3rd in the other - I wasn't surprised by it because I entered a recipe for a South Indian dish that only South Indians know, so I'm pretty sure that everyone voting was either put off or weirded out by it.
4. Yes, because I won't quit until I win. :D
Hi Table Bread,
I'm wondering ~ should i leave a comment here?! :)
I never enter any contest.
But always hope there's contest on Home Cook Food :)
There's Daring Baker... would it be Daring Home Cooker?
roopa - thanks for your comment. Did you have to fly anywhere to cook your dish or did they just judge it off your recipe card?
chin - ;) just the contest kind on paper. I didn't mean the blogger kind but the DB's can be challenging can't they?!
I don't think I have entered any true recipe contests. I do quite a few food blogging events. And I run my own, ala Cupcake Hero.
To be completely honest, I do not have the self esteem to enter a recipe contest. I always wanted to enter the Build A Better Burger that they show on FN, but never had the guts. That's why I test out other people's cupcake recipes instead.
Good luck with your contest! I cant wait to see what it is, I'm extremely curious now!
I've entered two - I never heard how I did - obviously not a finalist. In one case I thought my recipe was clearly better than half the finalists and in teh other I was ashamed to have entered compared to theirs!
I think you should expect to enter and to have nothing else ever happen - like you hadn't entered at all really - that must be the most likely outcome for entrants...
slush - You should SO enter the Build a Burger contest! I bet you would do fabulous! Then I can say, "Hey I blog with that person!" when I see you on the grill :)
owen - sorry to hear you had such a negative experience. I'm sure that's how most of the recipes end up. You have to wonder how many entrants they receive for each contest!
Hi Lewis, thanks for commenting on my blog. Actually I entered a T.V. food contest about 15 days ago but I haven't yet blogged about it. I will do that soon but I won the third place. I was a bit annoyed with the results as well because I got an 8 out of 10 from the dietitian who was one of the four judges (although he said that my dish was well balanced, tasty and it wasn't oily) just because he wanted more healthy recipes.
i never did enter such cotest, just cant relate how n my experience... I am experienceless on this matter!
Ivy - WOW! Congratulations on winning third. I am sure you won over quite a crowd so even third place is quite an honor! I can't wait to read your post about it :)
Big Boy - me too I'm afraid but hey one of the reasons I started blogging was to learn more so I think I am going to give this a swing.
1. Yes - I entered one recipe contest.
2. I actually won the grand prize!
3. Entering was easy - just filling out a form with the recipe and emailing it. Finding out I was the grand prize winner was surreal.
4. I would definitely enter another contest, but now the bar is set pretty high :)
